Today we started off by going to a patent attorney and had a surprisingly fun time learning about patents. Andrew and Victor were great presenters and very insightful in their field of work, and their time that they spent afterwards with us at lunch was very special us, that a CEO of a major international company taking his time answer our question while breaking bread with us and teaching us how to do Fika properly, such as at 2:30 on a Friday you must take a break and enjoy coffee and a sweet treat with it, today was a cake that had coconut on it and taste like a cake pop.

My most interesting takeaway from meeting with Valea is knowledge about patents, such as a patent is granted to you as a negative right from your government. That even if you get your patent approved it is not a right for you to begin making your invention, but it is a right for you you to stop others from making it. This is due to if someone had the patent before you. Valea provides their services customers of all sizes even some of the largest companies on the planet all the way down to the lowly inventor.

Christian gave us a very interesting presentation on xylem on what they do and what they are doing to bring water solutions to the world. Xylem makes all sort of water solutions, but is industry leading for their pumps. They make very expensive pumps but they are the highest quality in the world and have pumps that have been working for over 30 years and still going strong. One very cool thing is that New Orleans has the biggest pump system has ever created that each pump can move over 3,000 hot tubs worth of water a second, to save the city if it were to suffer from flooding.

Xylem makes all of there pumps 100% in their factory, everything is of the highest quality, they even have a foundry where they cast the parts to their pumps to control the quality of their product closely, and to cut down on lead time. We even got a personal guarantee that they have the cleanest foundry, that we could wear our suits around it with no fear of getting dirty.
MATT’S DAILY TAKEAWAYS.
- Fika on a Friday is no joke here and everyone takes part in it.
- Patents are a negative right.
