Today we learned to navigate the trolly and bus system, with just a couple of small hiccups everything went smooth and we were able to get to our ferry in perfect time. There was two trams that we took and one bus to get to the final destination, with some advice and directions from some very helpful and friendly Swedes. We took the ferry stopping at several small beautiful islands on the way with finally stopping on the island of Brännö. A fun fact about the island is that there is not any privately owned vehicles on the island.
The islands poked out of the water creating an amazing scenery of the many islands, but my favorite part of the landscape is the small fishing shacks spread throughout the coastline. I love the small structures bringing contrasting colors to the landscape without becoming

The Island had on display a mine from the second world war that never went off, the mine was on display outside of the museum that was closed for the day.

We explored the island and landed on a spot called Susie’s cove that previous years trips has knick named it. We backpacked lunches in that we made that morning from the hostel breakfast. It was a little rough climbing to the perfect spots to eat our lunches but it was definitely worth the hassle.

From Susie’s cove we had an amazing view of the harbor and worked great as our lunch spot for the day. After lunch we were given free time until the ferry arrived and decided to do some rock climbing and explore the roads and trails of the Island. The roads on the island are very narrow due to not having to accommodate cars driving on it.

On our ferry ride back to the main land we were able to get a wonderful sunset setting behind the islands behind us, after that we were able to warm up with some coffee and tea on the ferry cafe to warm up from our long cold beach day.

For dinner we went down the street from the hostel to a pug called Karlsons garage and had Swedish meatballs, and I had pictured Swedish brazed beaf with potato wedges, the Swedes love potatoes…. The sauce pictured was a mayo base that they serve here with a lot of dishes, it is tangy with a complicated flavor that a lot of us love.
Matt’s Daily Takeaways!
- Swedes continue to amaze me how willing to help you out they are.
- If a bartended is buying you a shot it is probably not the good stuff.
- Europeans walk a lot more than we do in the U.S.
